In the middle of the Lake District, Keswick is an ideal base for exploring the northern mountains and lakes of this most beautiful and inspiring corner of England. With Castlerigg stone circle and the wonderful Derwentwater lake on your doorstep, plus a wealth of museums in town it might be tempting never to explore very far. I do recommend that a climb up one of the mountains is definitely on your to do list. Catbells is the closest and most gentle climb, but when you get to the top and look back toward the town with the sun behind you, prepare to be utterly enthralled by the view.
